Shedding during the tour???

hey timo,

finally gets to see ya on the boards! boy, i wish i had some good insights to this thread. if anything, i tell this to just about anyone who hates working on rudiments or new rudiments w/ a practice pad and a metronome (to some of us it can be a bit mundane). just listen to tunes that you like, at a comfortable tempo. what i find is that it gives the rudiments a different twist. i end up sounding more melodical, cuz i'm playing off the dynamics and melodies that i try to mimic. it makes it more fun. i also find that different types of musice, say hip hop or rnb grooves makes me phrase these rudiments differently. not to mention, it keeps my hands in shape.

shedder - my shoulder's good. you're right. shoulda gone with the cherry pick. thanks for lending me the dvd's steve smith is a master, and vinnie w/ corea is just blatantly sick. i'm still chewing the cud as one might say.

Reminds me of the time I was on motorcycle & this uninsured guy blew a stop sign & pulled right out in front of me...had to do a "sharp left - sharp right"...dropped the bike, & slid down the pavement [can anyone say, "strawberry delight?!"]
It was either that or become a permanent piece of car "side-panel" & "blend" in w the paint job...had to then play the gig in a L-shoulder/arm cast for about 4-6 wks...good thing I'm a rightey, & was playing 80's rock/pop ATT [not the most challenging fills in music]...just "kept it simple, stoopit"...

Another time I was chasing my "soon-to-be-GF/soon-to-be-ex-GF" around the bar/countertop in the band house after a gig [liquor involved]...she had pinched me in a questionable locale or something, & I took off after her, slipped on someone's spilt marguerita in my Top 40 Jazz-Tap Capezio's [img]redface.gif[/img] & darn near broke my thumb ["jammed"/pulled tendon; L, again]...good thing for accompanying Top 40 sequences for shore. [img]wink.gif[/img]

When I drive I like to keep a Real Feel practice pad on the passenger seat so when I am in traffic i can work on my rudaments but other than that I would suggest Air drumming.
